Nagarhole National Park – Excellent Sighting Place for Wild Side of Nature

If you are a wildlife buzz, come to Nagarhole National Park. This is one of the most amazing destinations for the one inclined towards wild nature and creatures. Located in the districts of Kodagu and Mysore in southern Karnataka, this wildlife reserve is spread over an area of 640 sq km. Established in 1955, this forest reserve was an exclusive hunting ground of the erstwhile maharajas of Mysore.



The national park encompasses a rich variety of wildlife animals including the ferocious tiger. The reserve is like a paradise for bird lovers as there are 250 species of birds including babbler, bulbul, dove, eagle, Indian red, golden back parakeet, southern tree pie, woodpecker, hornbill, Malabar pied are some of the few to name. River Kabini flowing gently beside this verdant land separates the park from Bandipur National Park. Once a hunting ground for the Mysore rulers, the park is accompanied by thick forests, beautiful valleys, mesmerizing waterfalls and small streams.

The vegetation of the wild reserve encircles deciduous forest in the southern part and dry tropical forest inclined towards the east. The main trees of the landscape are rosewood, teak, silver oak and sandalwood. The travellers can also spot the variety of wildlife in the park which includes sloth bear, civet, spotted deer, elephant, panther, wild dog, gaur, sambhar, wild boar, pangolin, flying fox and many more. You will also an abundance of reptiles in the park comprising crocodiles, pythons, vipers, kraits, cobras and various species of lizards.

The perfect time to visit Nagarhole National Park is from October to May, especially from April to May. While at the park enjoy trekking and also take jeep safaris accompanied by an expert guide.
